This is my new favorite cold weather cocktail. Imagine it like a martini plus. The plus part is the touch of angostura bitters and the walnut liqueur. The first sip is bright and refreshing, but quickly yields to the mellow, honeyed flavor of the liqueur with a subtle bite from the bitters. The down low is cozy yet refreshing at the same time. If you don’t think you like gin, try this cocktail, it just might flip you.
1 1/2 ounces gin (or infused vodka, recipe below)
1 ounce french vermouth
1/2 ounce walnut liqueur
2 dashes angostura bitters
Combine the ingredients in a large glass or cocktail shaker. Fill 2/3 full with ice and stir for about 15 seconds, strain into a chilled glass.
INGREDIENTS (INFUSED VODKA)
750 ml vodka
1 orange, peeled
2 tablespoons juniper berries, bruised
2 tablespoons basil leaves, roughly torn
1 inch piece of cinnamon
Combine everything in a lidded container. Put in the fridge and let it infuse for 1 week. Strain, and store in the fridge.
