Sometimes simple is best, and right now I am LOVING simple. My usual drink of choice is a shot of whiskey with one ice cube, but if I want to put a tiny bit more effort into it, I love looking to what’s in season and mixing that with my favorite liquor. This cocktail could not be easier: four ingredients, at their best. The blackberries add a lovely depth, the honey a touch of sweetness, and the Meyer lemons add a bit of soft acid. If you don’t like whiskey, this recipe would work with…any other liquor. Yep. Simple is best sometimes.
3 meyer lemon slices
1 teaspoon honey
2 ounces bourbon
Combine the blackberries, Meyer lemon slices, and honey in the bottom of a cocktail shaker, and muddle thoroughly until everything is well combined. Add bourbon and ice, shaking vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain into a glass over fresh ice and enjoy!
