Smokey, sweet and balanced, this manly play on the classic manhattan makes you want to sip it in an old library surrounded by fine leather goods.  At least that’s how I feel about it.

INGREDIENTS

1 ounce laphroig (or another very smokey whiskey)

1 ounce rye

1/2 ounce amaro

3 dashes orange bitters

orange peel

DIRECTIONS

Combine the laphroig, rye, amaro, and bitters in a large glass. Fill with ice and stir for 15 seconds.  Strain into cocktail glass.  Twist orange peel over the glass and rub the edge of the glass with it.  Toss in the peel for garnish.
