It’s so close to summer time, I can almost taste it. It’s a combination of sweet and tart lemonade, smoke and salt on the grill, and that feeling of biting into a perfect slice of watermelon. That’s why I was so excited to join Home Depot this last weekend to see their latest products in the world of gardening and grilling. I started a little garden of my own, planting watermelon for the first time this year, so I’m extra invested in the idea of “garden to grill.”
The grilling area of the party could not have been prettier. Nestled in the shade of a tree with vines creeping on the walls around it, it was the perfect spot to relax while Chefs Jon and Vinny demoed their delicious recipes.
The grills themselves were beautiful to look at (a cherry red Kitchen Aid was one of my favorites) and were power houses. The Nexgrill caught my eye because of it’s sleek stainless steel design and the fact that it was propane. I need a propane grill at my house (running a gas-line isn’t possible) and this one looked amazing. There’s a side burner so you can heat up sauces or even make sides while you’re grilling. No more back and forth between the kitchen and grill. You can find both of these grills exclusively at The Home Depot.
One of the most interesting accessories I saw was the Himalayan Salt Plate by Charcoal Companion. Not only are they gorgeous for serving, you can use them to simultaneously cook and season as well. I love the idea of throwing something like shrimp or steak on this slab, and getting a savory sear. Plus, any time you don’t have to re-plate something is a bonus for me.
It was such a fun event, with a DIY garden box activity that I completely failed at (swinging a hammer is not my skill set) but beautiful summer drinks (like a spicy watermelon margarita) made up for my lacking DIY skills. I’m excited to get grilling this summer – what’s your favorite thing to cook outdoors?
