Everyone jokes that every family needs a lawyer and a doctor, but I’d like to add make up artist to that list. My cousin Erica is a fabulous professional makeup artist and the beauty blogger behind Pretty Pleased, her site featuring beauty tips and tricks, her insider advice. I thought she could bring a little of that beauty wisdom over to The Kitchy Kitchen, so she’ll be here blogging once a month. Stay tuned for all things pretty and lovely!
My lips are constantly dry in the winter, so whipping up this easy lip scrub is heavenly. The coconut oil moisturizes, while the sugar gently sloughs off dead skin. The honey not only binds it together, but helps brighten and bring back your natural color, while adding healing elements as well. I like adding a couple drops of peppermint oil for a refreshing twist that will actually give you good breath.
INGREDIENTS (LIP SCRUB)
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon raw sugar
2-3 drops peppermint oil or other essential oil of your choice
DIRECTIONS
Get your kissable lips by quickly popping the coconut oil (if hard and solid) in the microwave until melted. Add all the ingredients together to make a paste and gently rub along your lips. You can also use a toothbrush for some added friction but be very careful not to tear the skin. Wipe off with a warm washcloth or simply lick your lips! If sealed, you can store the remainder in the fridge for 2-3 weeks. Bead containers and baby food jars make great little pots for storage.
