HOW TO MAKE PAPER FLOWERS AND PAPER FLOWER CROWNS: A BLOOMS IN THE AIR COLLABORATION

I first came across Ji’s beautiful creations on, (where else?), Instagram. The simple beauty and vivaciousness of her magenta peonies pulled me in immediately.  These weren’t the garish yet simplistic creations I was used to seeing.  These were subtle, naturalistic blooms that would turn heads.

Ji, an archi-designer by day, is the creator of Blooms in the Air, a petite whimsical handmade paper flower shop. The shop came to life when a desire to create something beautiful using her own two hands grew too big to ignore. She sculpts all of her flowers petal by petal, with her hands, and has expanded from individual blooms to glorious flower crowns.

I am not that gifted when it comes to making things with my hands. Sure, I’ll spray paint something gold (who wouldn’t?), but knitting, painting, creating has felt out of reach to me for years.  So I invited Ji over to walk me through her process, top to bottom.  They are so gorgeous in person and the flower crowns are pretty enough to wear walking down the aisle (whether your a bride or bridesmaid) but unfussy enough to rock while partying at Coachella.  I hope you enjoy sculpting and creating your own beauties! Once you get going, it’s super fun and easy.

If you’re interested in purchasing some of Ji’s creation, check out her site, Blooms in the Air and make sure to come to her workshop at Poketo on April 27th.

Her gorgeous crowns will also be available for purchase on One King’s Lane starting April 7th.

Note: The flowers really hinge on using high quality craft paper.  Cart Fini and Castle in the Air carry lovely paper that you can order online.
