WHITNEY’S MONTHLY WINE PICK: ALWAYS UNDER $15, AND ALWAYS DELICIOUS
Choosing a wine can be an intimidating task for the uninitiated, but any seasoned wine drinker knows that good wine doesn’t always mean expensive wine. That’s where Whitney comes in. She’s here to help you pick a delicious bottle at an even more delicious price.
If you don’t already know her, I’d like to introduce all of you to my dear friend, Whitney Adams. A fabulous sommelier living in Los Angeles, she just launched her wine accessories brand and online shop, Bottle Stock, and blogs about wine and other drinking adventures at Whitney A. We make silly videos together and she’s basically the best.
WHITNEY’S NOVEMBER PICK:
2013 Selbach “Incline” Riesling
Mosel, Germany
$12, Domaine LA
When it comes to wine and Thanksgiving, Beaujolais Nouveau has somehow won the lottery in terms of shelf (and consumer brain) space. While a fresh, light red wine is great for the turkey and sides, Riesling is perfection as well. The acidity and lower alcohol percentage keep you on your toes during a long meal with a lot of flavor variety. This Riesling from Selbach-Oster, a fantastic winery in the Mosel, is what I like to call a gateway Riesling. It’s offers a low price of admission and showcases the grape’s beautiful ability to balance sweetness and mouth-watering acidity.
