WHITNEY’S MONTHLY WINE PICK: ALWAYS UNDER $15, AND ALWAYS DELICIOUS
Choosing a wine can be an intimidating task for the uninitiated, but any seasoned wine drinker knows that good wine doesn’t always mean expensive wine. That’s where Whitney comes in. She’s here to help you pick a delicious bottle at an even more delicious price.
If you don’t already know her, I’d like to introduce all of you to my dear friend, Whitney Adams. A fabulous sommelier living in Los Angeles, she just launched her wine accessories brand and online shop, Bottle Stock, and blogs about wine and other drinking adventures at Brunellos Have More Fun. We make silly videos together and she’s basically the best.
WHITNEY’S MAY PICK:
NV Eric Bordelet Poiré L’Authentique
Normandy, France
$15, Domaine LA
This bubbly, slightly off-dry cider is the perfect daytime sipper or picnic companion. It’s low in alcohol (4%), so you’ll be able to enjoy in abundance (because you’ll want to) and still stay fresh. It’s made from 14 different types of pears, not your typical apple, and is the work of master cider-maker Eric Bordelet. He biodynamically farms both apples and pears, only heirloom varieties, at his beautiful orchard in Normandy. His Poiré L’Authentique has a touch of sweetness, but still has mouthwatering acidity, making it a great friend to food. Taking a sip is like biting into a fresh, ripe pear. It would be a fantastic match to Claire’s Grilled Leeks with Burrata.
