THE PERGOLA AREA AT OESTE X HOME DEPOT

I’m so excited to invite you on a tour through the outdoors of my largest design project to date, Oeste, with my good friend Yayo! The vision for our Yucca Valley oasis was inspired by our travels to Mexico and Morocco, which are known for their rich culture and eye-catching colors. With Yayo’s Mexican heritage and the location, we really wanted to lean into that. That’s why it was so exciting to work with Home Depot on this project. They really catered to all of our landscaping and DIY needs making it possible to see our vision through.

One of the main ideas behind the property was to not only be a place to stay and host events, but for photography too, so we turned to one of LA’s most popular photoshoot locations—the Philip Dixon house. We loved how adaptive the spaces were and Home Depot gave us the tools to create really unique experiences within different areas of the mood-lifting patio up to the stock tank pool overlooking the gorgeous Yucca Valley landscape.

For the patio, we wanted it to feel polished and complete, so we started by filling the backyard with Home Depot’s decomposed granite, raking it out, and then hosing it down to keep everything compact. Yayo scored these incredible agaves on sale at Home Depot so we were able to really enhance the green-life.

One of my favorite features of the patio is the tiled triangular lounge area. One side is for sunbathing in the hot desert sun and the other is for lounging around our DIY floor level dining table for a meal and libations. Because it was virtually impossible to find a table that fit our exact needs, we made our own with leftover concrete and Home Depot’s hardy wood and plaster.

We wanted to create some shading, but still allow the beautiful sunlight to filter through, so Yayo masterfully built us a pergola with ocotillos, 6’x6′ redwood pieces, which Home Depot cut to the exact dimensions we needed, and connecting plates. Home Depot had a great selection of wood, so it was easy to find something that catered to the desert climate, which can be hot, but also very cold.

What we loved about working with Home Depot was they really catered to all of our needs and wants with Oeste, making it almost effortless in customizing our dream destination.

Thanks so much for joining! Stay tuned for a full look at the outdoors at Oeste and make sure to follow us on Instagram for more on our desert escape.
